PhD & PostDoc opportunities in the Institute
The Gurdon Institute offers a world-class environment for post-graduate research in Developmental, Cell and Cancer Biology, currently hosting seventeen independent research groups with diverse but complementary interests in cellular and molecular biology. In addition to the rich, collaborative working environment, students also benefit from all the unique cultural advantages of College life and membersip of the University of Cambridge.
The Institute also benefits from a comprehensive support infrastructure. A team of dedicated staff assists with administration, purchasing, accounting, IT support, media preparation, glasswashing and animal husbandry, enabling the scientists to concentrate on research work.

Current PostDoctoral positions are advertised at the top right of this page, but Group Leaders are always keen to hear from suitable, motivated researchers looking to develop their careers.
If you are a prospective PhD student, two avenues are open to you: if you are able to identify the field in which you would like to work, then you can approach any of the Group Leaders directly. Such applications are welcome at any time - send an email with your CV attached. Please note that we receive a great number of direct enquiries and applications, and while we endeavour to acknowledge and respond to them all promptly, sometimes we cannot be as prompt as we would like. Please be patient. There are many funding opportunities available for these places, and the Group Leader will discuss these if you are invited for interview.
The alternative approach is to apply for a place on the (very competitive and generously funded) Wellcome Trust 4yr PhD Programme. This programme provides students with an opportunity to spend time in a variety of labs (perhaps working with a variety of model organisms) during their first 'rotation' year, before making a decision about where they'd like to specialise. Applications are considered once each year, and are subject to a schedule of deadlines for various funding and administration processes - please refer to the website for more information. Note that some of our Group Leaders do not participate in this programme, and will only consider direct applications.
