Group Leader - F.J. (Rick) Livesey
Rick did his undergraduate and preclinical medical studies in Cork,
Ireland before joining the MB/PhD programme at the University of Cambridge
Clinical School. He did his PhD at the MRC LMB
in Steve Hunt's group and post-doctoral work with Connie Cepko at
the Department of Genetics, Harvard Medical School. Rick started his
group at the Gurdon Institute in September 2001.
Group secretary - Juliet Barrows
Juliet has been at the institute for a number of years, under a number
of different guises, and is responsible for keeping us all organised.
Lab Manager - James Smith
James makes sure that everything in the lab works smoothly. Among other things, he edits the lab website.
Post Doc - Steve Sansom
Following on from a successful PhD in the lab, Steve's research is focused on neocortical area patterning and neural stem cell fate choices.
Post Doc - Therese Andersson
Therese joined us in March '08, brining her neural stem cell expertise from the Karolinska Institute and has been working on Dicer and microRNAs.
Graduate Student - Jessica Alsiö
Jessica is near the end of her four-year Wellcome PhD
where she addressed the function of Ikaros in the developing cortex.
Graduate Student - Uru Thammongkol
Uru came to us from Imperial London, and is writing up her thesis on the role of FGF8
in cortical development.
Graduate Student - João Pereira
After recently getting married in Lisbon, João is back to writing up his PhD, exploring the epigenetic regulation of neurogenesis.
Graduate Student - Yichen Shi
After his undergraduate degree in York, Yichen is investigating the generation of cortical neurons from human ES lines.
Graduate Student - Peter Kirwan
Another Wellcome four-year student; with an interest in cortical neuron electrophysiology.
Graduate Student - Nathalie Saurat
Nat came to the lab from New Zealand with a prestigious Woolf-Fisher scholarship.
Graduate Student - Chiba Ene
Working on a PhD between here and Dr. Howard Fine's lab at the Neuro-oncology branch of the National Cancer Instititute, NIH (USA) before returning to the US to complete his medical degree.
