Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Scientist or a Research Assistant to join our group to work on the genome-wide regulation of replication initiation in the budding yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Our recent work has provided mechanistic insights into regulated origin firing both during the cell cycle and after DNA damage (Mantiero et al, EMBO J 2011, Zegerman and Diffley, Nature 2010; Zegerman and Diffley, Nature 2007). This project aims to understand the importance of this regulation for coordinating other cellular processes, for cell cycle progression and for genome stability. Postdoctoral applicants will have a PhD in biochemistry, genetics or molecular biology and Research Assistants will be expected to demonstrate evidence of organisational and lab managerial skills. Expertise in yeast genetics and/or whole genome profiling either by microarray or next-generation sequencing will be important. Previous experience of bioinformatics is useful but not required. Familiarity with the field of DNA replication would be an advantage. The person appointed will have the ability to multi-task, prioritise work effectively and have good communication skills. Informal enquiries can be addressed to Dr P. Zegerman p.zegerman@gurdon.cam.ac.uk. A covering letter and CV together with parts 1 and 3 of a CHRIS/6 application form (downloadable from http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/offices/hr/forms/chris6/) should be emailed to jobs@gurdon.cam.ac.uk. The funds for this post are for 1 year in the first instance with the opportunity to extend. Closing date for applications Friday 1st June 2012 Quote reference: PR00227 If you are interested in joining us for a PhD visit the Wellcome Trust 4-year PhD Programme in Developmental Biology http://www.pdn.cam.ac.uk/phd/ For other PhD studentships in our lab please go to the following weblink at the Dept of Zoology website. |
