Big Biology Day

Big Biology Day is an annual event at Hills Road Sixth Form College, Cambridge, as part of National Biology Week.

Saturday 14th October 2017, Hills Road Sixth Form College, Cambridge, 10am-4pm

This year's BBD will be even bigger that the last, with a biology careers fair in addition to all the fascinating science stalls. The Gurdon Institute will be there with the ever-popular activity 'Make your own smartphone microscope', which you can test on our research specimens and then take home to try out on all manner of small finds.

Our scientists will be happy to talk with you about their research and their careers in science. We look forward to meeting you on Saturday!

Stand ready for BBD

The Gurdon Institute stand was there along with many others for the biggest ever turnout of around 2000 visitors. We introduced children, families and adults to our fruit flies and explained how we use these model animals for research in human disease.

The event was organised by Hills Road Sixth Form College, University of Cambridge Science Festival and Cambridge Biologists.

You can view two of our posters describing why we use flies in research.

'Vox pops' at BBD2016

Visitors to the Gurdon Institute stand stopped to record their impressions of the event and tell us about how they and their families used our hands-on activities. Two of our volunteering scientists also shared what they got out of taking part.
