The Gurdon Institute

Big Biology Day (BBD) is an annual one-day science festival at Hills Road Sixth Form College, Cambridge, and part of National Biology Week. BBD celebrates the life sciences and engages the public with an array of biological topics with lots of hands-on activity and a career fair.

Previously, we have provided the ever-popular  'Make your own smartphone microscope' activity, which participants can test on research specimens and then take home to try out on all manner of small finds.

We also enjoy discussing how we use fruit flies as  models to study human disease

Visitors to the Gurdon Institute stand stopped to record their impressions of the event and tell us about how they and their families used our hands-on activities. Two of our volunteering scientists also shared what they got out of taking part.
