HFEA Licence (Centre 0331): The foundation of primordial germ cells in human

Azim Surani’s group has an HFEA licence to study early human embryos to investigate primordial germ cells (PGCs), which likely occurs on days 12-14 of human development. The study involves a variety of experimental approaches for the detection of the emergence of a small population of PGCs.  Specification of PGCs has intimate links with the initiation of a unique germ cell program leading to the development of sperm and eggs. The investigation seeks insight into causes of aberrant development, infertility and the transmission of genetic-epigenetic information with potential transgenerational impact on development.
